The world was apparently well run before 1690, or else no one spoke English: take your pick. While writing up a short news article about the guilty verdict against Marc Roger today in Geneva, I wanted to remind myself what faux dans les titres and gestion fautive are, in correct English legal jargon. I found myself wandering through a linguistic history of mismanagement and all the related crimes or small sins that business people can commit if they put their minds to it. Marc Roger has many ancestors in crime, if the rich vocabulary in Webster’s is any clue.

Faux dans les titres: one of the many kinds of fiscal fraud. Gestion fautive: faulty management, but I’m still hunting (and going back to my paper dictionaries).
