Thanks to Bruno Giussani at the Lunch over IP blog I read a great story in the LA Times about Ecuador declaring the environment has constitutional rights. It’s a thought-provoking story and raises many questions, mainly about how you protect these rights. And the article told me something I didn’t know, that the Catholic Church recently made pollution a serious sin – I found this a little hard to believe so googled it and sure enough, in March 2008 the Vatican made it clear that enviornmental pollution is a sin (but “serious” isn’t mentioned, at least not by Reuters. Meanwhile, one of the GenevaLunch journalists, Laila Rodriguez, has just left town for a trip down the Amazon, which now, at least in Ecuador, has new legal rights.
