Each week several odd bits of news drift out of press offices, and this is one of my favourites from Bern this week: the federal binder celebrates 100 years. These unattractive, speckled and gray binders are filled each year with an extraordinary amount of paper detail about life in Switzerland – 12 million (!!!)  are manufactured every year in Bruegg (20 Minutes, Fre). The Swissair saga required more than 4,000 binders, possibly more than an airplane would hold.
