On the cheap, Shopping ::
Geneva, Switzerland – What do you get if you mix: Local produce, food shopping, the internet and a bicycle? Before I answer this question, I have to say it came to my mind after reading my colleague’s (Jonell) blog about cardoons being in season. It reminded me of three things:
- First: If you are new to the area and want to learn about all the cool places to eat, foods to munch on, how to make them, and where to get them, read the Rambling Epicure. This blog will make you want to become a foodie.
- Second: Find out what products are in season by visiting the Canton’s website which also helps you find all the local wineries (33 in the list) and breweries (two). A great resource to keep handy in your bookmarks.
- Three (and this is the answer to the question above): Espace-Terroir, a Geneva-based association committed to socially conscious agriculture and business practices. Buy local produce (and products) and have them delivered directly to your steps the eco-friendly way: by bicycle. Each week you get a bag with in-season produce for 2 people (an average of CHF25) or for a family (CHF35 a week). At Espace-Terroir you can also buy local wine, juice, oil and much, much more, all made by residents of the Canton (you will even get a short bio about its provenance.)
Hope you enjoy these three great findings for the week.
Happy eating!
