GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – The 2012 Musiques Colorées free concerts, part of the series Musiques en été festival, takes place at the Ella Fitzgerald stage at La Grange Park every Wednesday and Friday from 6 July until 24 August. All concerts start at 20:30 sharp and last anywhere between 60 to 90 minutes.
The 11-year-old event is reminiscent of the popular Summer Stage in NYC’s Central Park, and specializes in World Beat music (hence the title musiques colorées). However, the 2012 repertoire features mostly European and North American-based artists ranging from chanson to jazz.

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – If this is your first summer in Geneva, cheer up, the city in summer is nothing like the rest of the year, there are loads of things happening.
First in my list of free fun events this summer is CinéTransat or free outdoor films by the lake. A chance to watch a movie under the stars while enjoying one of the city’s best outdoor scenery – Lake Geneva.
This city-sponsored fest hits the Perle du Lac park for its fourth year, offering a six week run of mostly popular and classic flicks like Flashdance or the cult 1942 romantic film Casablanca. Get there early with your crew to nab a prime picnicking spot (kids are welcome).
One of CineTransat attractions are the thematic eves such as (see if you can match the theme to the right movie): the 60′s, Drag Queen eve, night surfing, princes and princesses, sci-fi and more.
In case of rain, CinéTransat is canceled. Here’s the 2012 film list: Read more…
Geneva, Switzerland – My quest for bargains, cheaper prices, and free, fun events in Geneva, finds me again by Lake Geneva’s shores. Today’s key word: Ciné Transat.
Ciné Transat is a city-sponsored nocturnal hangout that offers free movies under the stars and by the lake, near the Perle du Lac restaurant. An incredible setting for a fun summer activity for all.
While the movies are not new blockbusters, they are a collection of classic films that take on new meaning when watching them under the stars – and over a picnic blanket – with friends and family.
Some movies are for adults only, but most are suitable for all.
The only necessary item is you, and sometimes, a costume.
Geneva, Switzerland (GenevaLunch.com) – Every summer Geneva boasts its own version of the popular Summer Stage in Central Park. The 9-year-old event is called Musiques en été festival, and it features loads of free World Beat music concerts in a park setting.
The free concerts take place at the Ella Fitzgerald stage at La Grange Park, near Geneve Plage, every Wednesday and Friday. The summer series begins tomorrow 7 July and runs until Friday 20 August.
Geneva, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - The Place du Bourg, Molard, Place de la Navigation, Bastions Park, the English Gardens and Old Town are but of few of the places with free music concerts starting today 25 May and until the end of the month.
The genre will mostly please brass-band and classical music aficionados who can enjoy free music outdoors.
The series of concerts are sponsored by the Culture Department of the City of Geneva.

Geneva, Switzerland - Geneva is a city of parks. There are 310 hectares of green areas divided in 800 small and large plots, which according to the Department of Social Cohesion, Youth and Sports, represents 20% of the urban territory.
Since 2003, the City has been offering free lawn chairs in parks around town during the summer.
This year the nine participating municipal parks are:
Albuquerque, is a modest sized city located in the middle of… nowhere, New Mexico, USA. But, don’t let that fool you. This overgrown town has decided to create a free city-wide wifi network, and their efforts are impressive. For example, to encourage commuters to take public transport, the city offers free wifi on the commuter rail service. “We know when the ‘Rail Runner‘ is here because the connection in the AirPort changes names,” says Tim McGivern a seasoned journalist in the Duke City (after the Duke of Alburquerque, Spain, that is).
Well. Geneva is not yet offering free Internet access on its public transport systems but its efforts at free wifi are not too shabby either.
You can login for free in libraries, community centers, some museums, some parks and even at a popular Geneva beach. Find the closest free wifi near you through the City’s easy to use, interactive map.
The City assures that the connection is secure and that surfing is anonymous and unrestricted.
Warning, some restaurants and bars in town advertise “free wifi access” but if you do not have an account with an Internet provider you cannot login. In contrast, City sponsored businesses offer wifi access to anyone without having to have an account, all you need is an Airport connection on your laptop and voilá.
Find your favorite login place, say Bains des Paquis, in the interactive map and don’t forget to check out GenevaLunch from wherever you are!
