intersoccer-2008-53.jpgGeneva-based Inter Soccer has built a good reputation in the past five years for getting boys and girls out onto the playing fields, in English, and given them a good time while getting them moving. There are several options, from after-school to vacation camps and school holidays, for all levels including beginners. Given the woeful news about foreign girls in Switzerland getting far too little exercise this is just the solution for girls 3-14 (boys, too). Winter after-school sessions start in December in Vessy and Versoix - it’s not too late to join.

Switzerland could only manage a 2-2 draw against Israel in Tel Aviv in their first match, in the campaign to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Most of the big teams won but not very convincingly: England beat Andorra 2-0, Italy won 1-2 in Cyprus and Spain beat Bosnia 1-0. France lost to Austria 3-1 in Vienna. For GenevaLunch by Nick Bates. Geneva and Neuchatel, Switzerland (GenevaLunch) - Marc Roger and two others began their session before the judge in Geneva in a case with multiple charges ranging from fraud to financial misconduct of the Servette Football Club that fell apart in 2005, owing more than CHF12 million. Roger was president of the club at the time but he had carved out a career for himself before that as an agent for several football stars.

Further north in Neuchatel, the trial opened of 15 people arrested on various charges relating to trafficking in watch parts and theft, with some of them accused of a gold heist from supplies intended for the watch industry. Rolex, Grisogono, and the luxury watchmaker Richemont are plaintiffs in the case popularly dubbed  as the Jacquet Affair because watchmaker Jean-Pierre Jaquet was and also the Ulysses affair because of the number of people involved.

GenevaLunch, by Nick Bates - Manchester United snatched a 3-2 win in the final minute in an exciting match against Inter-Milan after being down 1-2 at half-time. Cristiano Ronaldo put Man U ahead with an early header that was deflected into the goal. Brazilian star Kaka struck back with two goals for Inter-Milan. Wayne Rooney scored two goals in the second half to take a slender lead into the return leg next week in Milan. Inter will feel that their two away goals leave them with an excellent chance to reach the final.

Tonight’s game features Chelsea against Liverpool, so English teams are sure of at least one team reaching the final, which will be played in Athens.
