My friendly household chef, who is brighter in the early hours than I am, does our oats, so I don't usually have this problem. But I'll keep it in mind for an emergency, or a day when I want a new approach to breakfast - sounds interesting! I had oats drilled into me when I was little, but found them soooo boring. When my husband was told he had diabetes and oats for breakfast would be a good start to diet reform I wasn't eager to join him. But we discovered that some Coop supermarkets sell "gros" (large) oat flakes as well as the smaller "fin" and they really are better. We use 2 small cups of water to 1 cup of oats, stirring the oats into the boiling water, then turn it down for 15 minutes to very low heat, adding a pinch of salt. We then add a drizzle of milk, cover, and let it sit another 5 minutes. I'm almost loving them now.
