GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – Canada, as the BBC put it Thursday morning, has had its share of grisly crimes, but the one the country is waking up to Thursday goes beyond grisly. The Toronto Star says the police investigation in Montreal is turning into a “horror show”. Body parts mailed to political parties and others are showing up in offices with some intercepted by police at postal distribution centres.
The gruesome discoveries follow the discovery by police in Montreal Wednesday 30 May of a bloodied apartment. The Globe & Mail reports that “the studio apartment, located in a boxy, brick building overlooking an expressway in Montreal, became the focus of a police investigation into what has emerged as a sordid and bizarre crime that has ricocheted to federal political party offices in Ottawa.”
Police are asking the public for help finding the main suspect, model and adult film star Luka Rocco Magnotta, age 29, who has in the past used several aliases and changed his name. He has a long trail of Internet violence and porn, say police, who have put out a nationwide bulletin for the man.
Magnotta is suspected of filming a death in the apartment; body parts have been found by several people including a janitor who checked a discarded suitcase and a secretary who opened a package sent to a member of parliament.
