BERN, SWITZERLAND – The Alliance of Consumer Organisations has filed fraud charges against an unknown perpetrator for supplying consumers with products labeled as beef that contained horse meat.
The three member organisations from three language regions, ACSI, FRC and SKS in 2010 joined forces “to reinforce the interests of the consumers throughout Switzerland”.
Their legal action Wednesday 26 February was undertaken, the group says, so the alliance can demand that “justice officials in Switzerland identify and bring to justice those who are guilty of carrying out this large-scale fraud committed against this country’s consumers”. Charges against “unknown” perpetrators allow investigators to search further than companies already identified as involved.
The group called it the worst food scandal in Swiss history.
