GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – An unidentified driver was killed shortly after 01:00 Monday when his car crashed near no. 3 Quai de Cologny as he headed out from the Mont Blanc bridge at a high speed. Police say the car flew into the gate of the Genève-Plage P+R rail parking lot and the driver died at the scene.
The accident occurred at 01:10 Monday morning and police are asking any witnesses to contact them at +41 22 427 6450.
Dramatic rescue below Grand Muveran peak
A 24-year-old Jura man was rescued Saturday from a perilous perch where he was trapped due to a “health problem”, Vaud police said Monday. The freerider called Rega rescue services mid-afternoon after he was caught about 100 metres from the top of Grand Muveran, at 3050 m.
The perilous rescue by helicopter took 2.5 hours and the youth was taken to hospital in Monthey for a checkup. Police say it appears that he climbed alone, using skins and crampons, before he became stuck.
Speeder loses license in Ollon
Police stopped a 36-year-old Portuguese man from the area who was clocked doing 158 kph in an 80 zone, in Ollon, Monday at 15:00. His license was taken; he risks a prison term and his license is likely to be suspended for two years.
