People who love the taste of fine wine were watching a variety of Swiss wines which moved onto the center stage on a world level. It started with Pinot noirs and now Syrahs also moved to a world-level stage. These awesome wines got famous with the name of Hermitage in France.
Patricia Briel, a great wine writer of Le Temp has created most of the pages of the paper’s weekend edition on the huge success of Swiss Syrah wines at a recent international competition that happened in Italy.
In that international competition, there were a total of 35 wines for blind tasting. In that list, Switzerland presented 6 wines and others were from countries like Italy, France, the US, and Australia.
Surprisingly, Syrahs got 1st and 2nd place. Other 5 of the 6 Swiss wines were among the top 9.

- 1st place- Vieilles Vignes de Simon Maye et Fils of St. Pierre-de-Clages
- 2nd place- l’Encre de la Terre of Claudy Clavien, Miege
- 3rd place- Famille Grognuz, Saint-Saphorin of la Cave des Rois, La Tour-de-Peilz, Vaud
- 4th place- Quintessence, Benoit Dorsaz of Fully
- 7th place- Pradec, Denis Mercier of Sierre
- 9th place- Pre-des-Pierres of Didier Joris, Chamoson
Swiss wines have a good reputation and they are getting better. Swiss producers work really hard to improve the quality of their wines. And now with this competition, they are getting a chance to show the world how fine their wines are.
