To and from the airport
If you fly into the EuroAirport in Basel you can easily reach several cities and train stations in the three-countries region by bus or shuttle, directly from the airport. The number 50 bus runs four times an hour between the airport and the city centre train station for Swiss and French trains.
Basel has three train stations: the SNCF French rail station and the CFF/SBB Swiss rail station are together, at the Basel central station. German trains arrive at Badischer Station, near Messe Schweiz, some distance away, but there is good, frequent service between the two stations.
Note: there is no direct train line to and from the airport.
Taxi fares begin at CHF40 to downtown Basel and run as high as EUR110 to Germany. If driving to the Basel airport from the French side allow extra time, as traffic is usually heavy, especially so during rush hour. The airport offers parking on the French and Swiss sides, but if you are not familiar with the area give yourself ample time to locate parking or rental car drop-off areas, or for passenger drop-off and pick-up.
All hotel guests in Basel receive a Mobility ticket, which provides free access to all BVB and BLT (site in German only) lines, including the bus from the airport to the hotel. Passengers using this option must carry a confirmation of their hotel reservation.
Rhine ferries are not included in the Mobility ticket and must be purchased separately.
If you’re planning to do sightseeing, museum visits and you want to explore the city, the Basel Card 24 TNW is a very good deal, at CHF25 for 24 hours. Transport is free as is entry to 25 museums and the city’s famous zoo. You can buy this at the Euroairport, the tourism office and several other outlets.
A regular day ticket for the city’s transport system is CHF14 for adults, CHF7 for children 6-16. Available from ticket machines.
